The use of the Spa of Ledesma (Balneario de Ledesma) goes back to Roman times, to the days of emperor Marco Aurelio. Several sepulchres and coins found in the same mineral water deposits attest to it. The hot springs hotel complex is located beside the river Tormes, 25 Km. from the capital, in the vicinity of the town of Ledesma. Its waters have a low concentration of minerals and they are suitable for different conditions (rheumatic, skin and respiratory ailments, etc.) Retortillo and Babilafuente The Spa of Retortillo (Balneario de Retortillo) is located 72 km. from the capital, in the direction of Portugal, by the side of the river Yeltes. As with the one in Ledesma, the Romans already knew about the positive effects of its waters, that emerge at a temperature of 48º C. Its characteristics make it appropriate for rheumatic conditions, posttraumatic injuries, liver and digestive problems, etc. The Spa of Babilafuente (Balneario de Babilafuente) is located near the capital. Drinking its famous waters is indicated in diverse treatments, mainly for conditions of the urinary track.
